Visit to Żagań (Sagan)

On Saturady we decided to visit a nearby town Żagań (Sagan). First we went to the castle of Sagan. It is a very nice place with a surrounding park. Very pleasant for walks although quite wild.

After a walk around the park we decided to go to the town and visit and old Augustinian monastery which now is a hostel and a church. The church is beautiful and we happened to visit it during someone's wedding.
Remember the movie "The Great Escape"? Stalag Luft III was located in Żagań. We wanted to visit this place but it began to rain.

Even or odd number of flowers?

Tim Cameron wrote 7 Innocent Gestures That Can Get You Killed Overseas where he said that in Russia even number of flowers means death.
It really surprised me but answered my question why florists in Poland are always reluctant to sell half-dozen flowers. I always buy half-dozen but they say I should buy 5 or 3. My first thought was that this custom came from dividing the dozen by two when you end with an odd 3. I tried to explain the florists that before the communist times Poles used to buy flowers in dozens and the odd number became popular because of lack of money.
Apparently it started during the communist times but it came with Russians although it is not as drastic as in Russia. It does not mean death in Poland. So maybe it is better to buy a dozen flowers not less ...

Polish Railways

Two days ago I travelled to Warsaw by train and found two labels with an amusing use of English:

Sorry for the quality of the picture. The English version is:

Switch off the blockade of the door.

In case of urgent need opening the door,

to pull for the handle, then open the door by hand.

Unnecessarily usage will be sanctioned.

And a HAMMER OF SAFETY:

Well, my English is not perfect but a company like Polish Railways should pay someone who knows what he/she is doing.
